Toby buffer because I miss him.

This story is very disturbing. The original arrest made the news - it looked like “scumbag boyfriend abuses baby to death” - a scenario that is sadly all to common in the news.
But this article messed with my head. Could this be the sequence of events? The boyfriend hysterically calling the police? Does that not lend some credibility to his story? Is it possible that this young mother killed her child and blamed it on him? I really want to know more about the evidence in this case.

My gut says that he is innocent. I feel kind of sick now.

Hard to say. She could have snapped after yet another sleep deprived night, or could have done it by accident and tried to cover it up. The accidental part could be why he was frantic and she was confused about what was going on, or she could have lost it. It wouldn’t be the first time either scenario happened. Not enough details in that story for a strong argument one way or the other.

It’s disturbing either way. There’s definitely a lot more to the story that someone isn’t telling.
It’s a horrible story, but your title and lead image made me thing Toby had suffered some malady and I thought my day was about to start out really poorly.

Did I misread this because I'm thinking postpartum depression, but I'm not sure if the had the child together or not?

Yikes. That article makes it seem far from conclusive. Just a game of he said/she said.

Does it last that long? The kid was almost 2.

Lots of other factors there, though, if she’s not with the kid’s father but now found this other guy, who knows what her work or other life stuff is like.
Not sure this can ever be resolved, honestly, as time passes each side will just dig in more and feel even more strongly that he or she is right. I can’t really see a scenario where there isn’t reasonable doubt on either side.

So sad.... and complicated legally. Hard to see how there wouldn’t be reasonable doubt no matter what scenario each side portrays as the truth.

Who knows without seeing the forensics. However , the child died of blunt force trauma as a result of being strangled, so I’m guessing the windpipe was crushed. Which means there are most likely finger shaped bruises around their neck that would be easy to discern between a man and a womans. He also claims she did this in front of him, so...why didn’t he try to stop her?
Then there’s the motive with him getting dumped that morning. The freaking out and calling the cops thing doesn’t really tell me anything. Some people freak out when they end a life, especially a child’s life.

They didn’t really specify if their relationship ended before or after the homicide, just that it ended that day. U nsurprising considering the circumstances.
I’m glad that the accused seems to have (presumably) decent representation. He is going to need it.

Gut says he’s innocent. It just doesn’t read like he’s a killer. However, the mom kinda sounds a bit like a sociopath in a couple of those statements.

Two days for a preliminary hearing? Is that common in CA? Not much evidence comes out there, but with the coroner determining blunt force trauma, that’s usually enough for probable cause and the case to just move for ward. Seems to be a lot of discussion during the preliminary, which doesn’t seem normal.
Regardless, there’s a child that has died, whatever the cause may be. What a horrible tragedy.

I’m not clicking the article, but I have a Toby related question to ask you.
I have a road trip coming up for work and I’m debating taking Shelly, though it’s not set in stone yet. This is mostly because I have to inspect about 150-acres of tick-infested grassland and she won’t want to walk that far and I don’t want to deal with the ticks on her.
I booked a dog friendly hotel hoping that I could leave her in her crate in the bathroom while I’m inspecting (so maybe 2 hours?) but I really can’t decide if that’s a good idea. Do you leave Toby for short periods? Is he ok with it? She generally doesn’t bark much at home but I have no idea whether this will work.
